Faculty mentorship is the beating heart of H&S. Our goal is to empower every student to pursue learning that happens outside of the classroom through internships, community engagement, and meaningful participation in professional associations and conferences. Such opportunities are invaluable for our students, and the Experiential Learning Fund ensures that we can support them robustly, so that they can gain the skills and transformative experiences they need.
Experiential learning embodies our belief that the arts and sciences serve the greater community, and that the work our faculty and students do in the classroom can lead to concrete actions that benefit human lives. This work happens every day. Driving through Ithaca, NY, you may see our Lab of Ecotoxicology students collecting samples from the Cayuga Watershed or sharing their findings at the annual Chili Festival. You might hear about students in the departments of Writing and Literatures in English who are organizing a literary festival featuring emerging writers. If you’re listening to music on Spotify, you may find yourself navigating localify.org, a music discovery app, collaboratively built by our Computer Science faculty and students to promote music by local artists. Or you might hear about students in politics engaged with world issues through the Model United Nations. Across our disciplines, H&S students leverage their education in the liberal arts to make a difference in the world.
